#^ing Excel Sort 1

Would someone confirm this sorting in Excel 2000?
Paste the 6 values in a1 through a6, select all 6, and sort with "no header."

2FC
2F-R

vlookup(...TRUE) appears to respect the same as its implied ascending sorted order.

This is from the Help file :

Text and text that includes numbers are sorted in the following order:

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 (space) ! &quot; # $ % & ( ) * , . / : ; ? @ [ \ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~ + < = > A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z

Apostrophes (') and hyphens (-) are ignored, with one exception: If two text strings are the same except for a hyphen, the text with the hyphen is sorted last.

Not sure exactly what you mean.

However, if you want to use the VLOOKUP function where the table's contents are NOT in ascending order, then all you need to do is add &quot;FALSE&quot;, like this...

=VLOOKUP(C5,tbl,1,&quot;FALSE&quot

Did you try this data yourself? The help file didn't seem to indicate that hyphen was between A and B

If the problem's on my end, I need to know that my results are anomalous. Could you try this? Thanks.

Daaaah, it's been a long day.

I had tried the sorting, and it turned out the SAME.

Just hadn't paid attention to the sort order. Never figured that Microsoft &quot;would ever make a mistake&quot; !!!.
