Hi Froum

Has anyone tried to connect an IPO and an INDeX via qsig, are there any gotchas?
The customer has an INDeX and an IPO on the same site and are currently using the PSTN to connect them at the moment, I think Qsig would be the cheapest solution until they migrate totally to IP Office?

I'm OK on the IPO side, but what do I have to do on the INDeX side of things

any advice would be helpful

Regards

Robb

You could link via QSIG or there is the Media Gateway which enables you to use your INDeX cabinets with ah IP Office system.

If you want to use QSIG, the IP Office only supports this on PRI cards, not BRI. It's easy to set up, change the Line configuration from ETSI to QSIG, put it in a differnt Outgoing Group ID and that's about it. Then just connect Tx to Rx and vice versa on the INDeX. Setup System Short Codes to dial xtns on the Outgoing Group IP for those lines.

With the costs involved, it would probably be better to use the Media Gateway option as you wouldn't have to buy PRI cards for the systems.

Thanks for your reply

the customer doesn't want any major configuration changes on the index so I thought this would be the easiest way

On the idex side of things is it just the case of pluging in the E-pri card and configuring it as Qsig or will I have to configure routes etc?

When you say they don't want config changes that's going to be a bit hard if they're going to eventually go to an IP Office. The IP Office is similar but still a completely different product. Although they can keep their phones, Avaya no longer make and there is limited support for these.

The Media Gateway plugs into an IP Office base unit, and is then connected to the INDeX cabinets so you don't need to buy IP Office xtn modules.

I'm not sure what the plan or time line is for moving to an IP Office. But eventually things will have to change.

As far as the QSIG in the INDeX goes (I don't know the INDeX at all) you'll need to buy, if you can find one, an E-PRI card, configure it as QSIG, put it's trunks in a new group, program the numbering plan so that when they dial xtns on the IP Office to go across the QSIG trunk group.

qsig to IP office shoule work with out any issues
programming of the Index & IP Office should be straight forward

other than making sure the extn numbers are uniqe & configuring the PRI as qsig the IPO should need no further changes.

on the index you will need to configure ARS to route all calls for the IPO to the Q-Sig trunk group

If you are not familiar with ARS programming on the INDeX i would recomend getting in a maintainer as errors in this section can render the system incapable of making any calls (Internal & external) untill resolved.
