Incremental Versus Full Backup

What are the difference between incremental and full backups when it comes to recovering lost or corrupt data (if any at all)?

We haven't seen any differences for restoring individual files but the question was posed by a coworker I didn't have a clear answer.

We use Symantec Backup Exec. and have a 4 tape cycle(2 incremental, 2 full). Monday evening we run a full backup and Tuesday - Friday evenings incremental backups.

However, a failed full backup will mean that all incremental backups are reliant on the PREVIOUS full backup and you're only using 2 full backups.

Full backups are an excellent approach. How much is your data worth? Worth not being backed up?
