Our Compaq Proliant Server 3000 has four 4.3Gb disks and a hot spare. It is configured using Compaq smartstart and RAID5. The server is virtually full and I need to increase the disk space. I have managed to get hold of an additional two 4.3Gb disks which are to be added to the Server. Apparently this can be done using Smartstart by configuring the array as 6 disks and 1 spare... The partition can then be increased... Has anyone ever done this and is it that straightforward ??
I really dont want to rebuild the server if possible. (It is our Lotus Notes Server).
Any advice please will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Novak,

More a server question but will answer it here.

Depending on which RAID controller you have there are a couple of options. (If remember correctly)

1. You can add the drives to an existing logical drive within an array. Data will be striped over all drives.
2. You can add the drives as a new logical drive within array. Data will be striped over all drives.

Can't remember if spare is attached to array or a logical drive.

You'd then have to get NT to recognise the extra disk space and/or create a logical volume.
