oi~

out of the blue i can't burn cd's anymore.. and when i click on the drive w/ an empty cd in it Windows XP gives this error: "X:\ Is not accessible, Incorrect function". i can however still burn cd's using Picasa, that is the only thing i installed lately and i believe that i causing the issue.

any one any idea ? i tried multiple fixes i found on the Microsoft web site, and also un- and installed the cd drive again and XP says the device is working properly.

thanks in advance.

This talks about Roxio, maybe Picasa is in the same league?

315350 - "Incorrect Function" Error Message When You Access the CD-ROM Drive, DVD-ROM Drive, or CD-RW Drive

If you have multiple drives capable of writing to CD or DVD, make sure via the Recording tab in the drive Properties that the checkbox is selected that allows burning on your selected drive.

This next article talks about Upper and Lower Filters. When these get messed up it can cause all sorts of problems with CD or DVD drives. See if you can try the suggested solutions (backup any Reg Keys you alter). I have seen this fix many unrelated CD and DVD troubles.

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
