Hi,

I am trying to install a 3rd party piece of software WRQ Reflection 8.0 on to my windows 2000 pro machine I am running SP4. I click on the setup.exe and get the install menu and I can select the type of install (ie workstation or Admin) but then I get the error:

Windows Installer
Incorrect command line parameters.
Windows installer. V 2.00.2600.1183
Copyright© 2000 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
Portions of this software are based in part on the work of the independent JPEG Group.
With just an OK button.

I have only just had to reinstall win2k as there was a problem with one of the boot records the pc would boot half way and then restart so I am now reinstalling all the apps that I did have installed.

I have downloaded the latest Windows Installer from Microsoft but it tells me that The specified service already exists.

I have also tried installing version 9.0 of reflection and I get the same error with that too.

Help me please.....

Ps I forgot to mention that after installing office 2000 pro SR1 when ever I open an application i.e. Word I get the windows installer come up and a message: "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 Pro" and a blue bar scrolls and the app opens and works fine.

Many Thanks

Nick

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ServicesExisting Service Name[/i}
You need to change that.

Type"=dword:00000020
"Start"=dword:00000003
"ErrorControl"=dword:00000001
"DisplayName"="your service name"
"ObjectName"="NT AUTHORITY\\LocalService"
"Description"="Whatever you want for you service"

Thanks Bcastner,

I am a little slow this week I have found the key for the windows installer I am asuming that is one I sould be looking for but I am a little stuck as to what I sould be changing.
The type is diffrent : 00000120 (288) but I guess that is becase it is set as a manual service evey thing else is the same with the correct Name and Discription. Or am I being Stupid and not getting what you mean al all.

Sorry not very bright today.

Nick

No, I am being stupid as I posted the message above to a different thread, and I am surprised it appeared here.
My post confused both you and I.
I can only believe In typing quickly the focus moved to a different thread.

Odd, but not helpful to you.

In any case you can force command lines for .msi installations, and there are syntactical differences between XP and Win2k.

Try launching setup.exe or install.exe with your own set of switches; they should over-ride any defaults:

Thats ok I expect the site had too much christmas cheer just like the rest of us....

I will have a look at the switches and have a go.

Have a good new year...

Nick

I wish it was XMAS cheer, I was flipping between forums and just goofed.

If it is setup.exe or install.exe the switches should over-ride.

Please advise as to your results.
