I've found that add/remove programs doesn't always remove everything that was originally installed with a software package (such as registry entries and system hooks). Is there a tool available that will find and clean up all of that stuff?
Try a google search for "registry cleaner". There are several available that remove redundent entries.
Other stuff you'll have to do manually, in most cases.
Seems like the software writers do a better job of getting their stuff to install than to uninstall.
