in upgrade from 6.11 to 9.1+, will backup job be saved?

Is it better to do an upgrade to our 6.11 or just do an uninstall / clean reinstall of the 9.1 or higher BE package? Or rather is there a single config file to save which has our current backup job that I would like to continue with the newere software?
