Hi
I have heard it's not good to have a dot(.) in a folder name (this is a folder that will be used for housing web pages on a web server if that makes a difference). But I have seen people do it and I can't detect any problems caused by it. Is there some valid reason for not letting dots(.) into folder names?

eg: my.folder

btw...
I'm asking with respect to Windows 2000 Server and IIS 5.0.

TIA

Thanks CitrixEngineer!
I'd never noticed any problems either, but I thought it would be good to ask around. Maybe it's just one of those hand-me-down superstitions ;)

Sure you don't meen ($)? Some people use that to hide folders, but Microsoft doesn't recomend using that as it is a symbol that the OS uses for files. The (.) error comes about with DNS. If you have that at the root of the DNS server, you won't be able to access the internet. Glen A. Johnson

Hi GlenJohnson
Where this would be used is just on a webserver, nested within other folders. It won't be on a DNS at all, and I think the DNS won't even have to deal with it (it should parse off and look at only the URL with the folder paths I think -- is that right?). So do you reckon that will be ok?
