I have a customer whom is wanting to add an inexpensive voicemail to their Definity G3 V6. The company that makes the voicemail is telling me that they know that the Definity G3 v7 will work and as long as the V6 supports "In-Band Signaling" then it should work as well.

Does anybody know if the G3 V6 supports in-band signaling, and more specificlly has anyone ever installed an Aleen VME PRO voicemail on a Definity G3 System? If so, how did it work?

Thanks,

Mike

A V6 system will support it, but it was a RTU option at the time. So unless it was purchased, it won't work. You can quickly find out by trying to add a station using type: VMI.

I talked to my customer and he was able to set an analog station to VMI. If we set a port to VMI and hook up an analog phone on that port, should we then be able to turn on and off message waiting lamps from that phone? Is there a particular feature access code that we need to program up for MW Lamp On and MW Lamp Off?

Thanks,

Mike

You should be able to dial the FAC for turning the lights on and off from any station type. Look under the FAC page and see if a code is setup for "Leave Word Calling Send A Message" and "...Cancel A Message". These codes need to be programmed into the voice mail system so it can dial it to turn the lights on and off.

The reason for programming the voice mail ports as VMI is so when a call goes to coverage, the PBX can tell the voice mail system who the call is for. That way the appropriate greeting is played for the extension that was called. Analog stations programmed as type 2500 don't get this information passed through.
