I am trying to import tables into 32bit NT system runing oracle9i. A file *.dmp was exported from 64bit Unix system running oracle9i. After, using imp utiliy to import .dmp i am getting the following error
"IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully"
I checked the block size they are different in NT and unix. If this is the case, how do i solve my problem since i can't change the NT size to unix which is built on 64 bit. And unix has already created table on 8192block size.

Thanks for replying.

I'm not sure block size matters for import/export (could be wrong).
Not necessarily a solution but something to try:
Can you try import the file from Unix to the NT database? i.e. run the import on the Unix side but use TWO_TASK or "imp user@ntdatabase"?

Have to tested the export file - can you re-import to the original database?
Can you run IMP on the NT with ROWS=N and LOG=testexp.log
so you can examine the contants of the dmp files and look for any internal erroer?

How are you accessing the Unix-created dmp file - if you have ftp'd it to the NT side are you sure you used BINARY mode?

Just a few ideas...

Turkbear, you were right file was not ftp in binary mode therefore, it was creating the problem. Now i am facing another problem where i'm unable to import due to lack of privileges, however i have sysdba privilige. What other privileges do i need to import files?

Hi, when you log in for the import are you using the AS SYSDBA parameter ? Also, be sure, if the export is a FULL export that you have the IMP_FULL_DATABASE ( or the DBA ) role assigned to that user.

What was the exact error you received and when in the IMP process did it happen?

Depending on the type of import you are doing you may need the IMP_FULL_DATABASE role.

Thanks again for helping me importing files, after granting IMP_FULL_DATABASE role i'm able to import files successfully.
