I don't seem to have much success importingobjects into Access.

I thought I would be able to design new tables, forms and reports in a copy of an Access database, say on my own C: drive, and then import the new objects into the "live" version on the network. However, when I do this the database seems to get corrupted and not much works after that (good job I always backup!).

Am I doing something wrong or missing something? I simply click on File, Get External Data, Import, select the database and import the objects. I'm using Access 2k. Would appreciate any comments.

Thanks in anticipation.

If you are trying to import a new version of an object, you will have more luck deleting the old object first.

That said, updating a database is one of the advantages of using a split database where all the dynamic data exists in one database (back-end) and forms, reports, etc. exist in another database (front-end). The advantage being that when a new version is ready, you simply replace the entire front-end database and don't bother the back-end data. You might want to consider this method.

Hi Molaker

Yes, after all that I've read, your suggestion seems to be the way to go, ie to split the database.

I did discover that if I didn't delete the old version of an object, before importing the new version, I ended up with both, the new version having a slightly different name. I thought it would work better with entirely new objects, but it didn't seem to. Many thanks for your reply.
I'll get on with splitting it.
