I am trying to import data from a dBase II clone and, when I link or import the date, I lose almost half of the number of records that are out there. Access is not reading or importing it.

I am telling Access that the file is dBase IV, the oldest it supports, but how do I tell it that the data is even older?

Also, does anybody know how I can get all of the data imported?

Thanks

have you tried to open the file in Excel, save it and then bring it into Access?

I've tried it and it works. It is justa clumsy and time consuming effort, especailly if I just ant to link to the file.

Is there any reason that Access can't or won't read this type of file?

thanks

I first started playing with db's with dBaseII on a CPM Kaypro...they upgraded dBaseII to DOS. I don't think it ever went up to Windows. Usually the dbf format is pretty universal, but from the old DOS based files to 32 bit Windows files is quite a jump. My guess is that you will have to take the cumbersome steps thru a progession of programs as suggested. Be thankful you aren't working with dBase I (a joke). [sig][/sig]
