I recently installed Outlook Express 2002 with Office XP, and would like to import the .dbx files created by the previous installation of Outlook Express 2000. I know where the .dbx files are stored, and they are not read-only. I also have the 'folders.dbx' file intact. I tried to import them into OE 2002 by using the Import and Export Wizard, selecting "Import Internet Mail and Addresses", then "OE 4.x, 5" (there is no option to select any later versions of OE). The problem is that there is no opportunity to direct OE to the path of the .dbx files; instead it seems to search for them itself, but finds no messages.

I have read various posts on this website about importing messages, but none of them seem to deal with importing into OE 2002.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

have you tried, to go into outlook express, tools, options, maintenance, store folder, and just point it to where your previous outlook expressfiles were located. it ther should ask you if you want to switch to use those existing folders, or overwrite them and create a clean database. you want the 1st option off course....

the maintenance option you refer to doesn't exist in OE 2002, and i can't find it mentioned in any of the help files. There is something called "Data File Management", which allows you to direct OE to other .pst files, but the files i have are not in this format. I tried directing OE to a .dbx file this way, but it just told me the file wasn't a valid Outlook data file.

So, we are not talking about outlook express but outlook 2002 isn't it ?

anyway, do you have outlook express 5 or 6 also on your system ? (check under program files) the easiest way is, to use the option mentionned before (store folder) so outlook express is using the folders you want to get into outlook 2002, and if you have outlook express and outlook 2002 both open, go to outlook express, and use the option export. It should be able to transfer it directly into the PST of Outlook 2002

my apologies for getting the program wrong. I still have a problem though, because i don't actually have my previous version of OE installed at all, i only have outlook 2002. I only have the .dbx files from OE 2000, nothing else.

Any other suggestions?
