is it possible to import clips compressed in XviD into the timeline in order to edit and work with them?
ive tried doing so but upon importing it into the timeline, the selected clip appears yellow instead of green and dows not play at all in the preview window.

advise please..?

xvid, like divx is an encoding process, the "afterthought" when you are done editing (like mpg files as well).

I would suggest using Virtual Dub to change to a non-compressed AVI before importing into Permiere.
