Importing ACAD .DWG in 9.02

I need help opening acad .dwg files in Illustrotor 9.02. 90% of the time I get a 'unable to open' message. When it does open there is usually an error or two. Is there a recommended process for saving acad files so they open a bit more consistently?

How new of a .dwg file are you saving (how old is the CAD software) AI is pretty good at translating most any .dwg file except when it comes to very long or very complex paths (lots of nodes). Is there anyway you can import it in sections? BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!
