I'm having trouble importing! I can import from a .mdb to a .mdb and export from a .mdb to a .mde, however my problem is....

The raw data is in the .mde that the users have been using. There was a problem with one of the queries in the .mde. Fixed the query with the original .mdb and want to import all the raw data into the .mdb from the .mde so I can save the new .mdb as a .mde, but so that they don't loose any raw data.

Does anyone know how to import from a .mde to a .mdb?

My understanding of .mde is that you cannot. - That's one of the "features" of converting the db to a .mde. If you are ever going to want to extract data from the .mde then you must include EXPORTING functionality in the original design.

I just want the customer information, name address, phone. there's no way to get that info form the .mde into the original .mdb through the import aspect of the .mdb?

I don't want to loose all this info!

Hi legendy,

If I understand your problem correctly, this has never been a problem for me if it is simply data tables you want to get out of the .mde file. (tables and queries can be imported from .mde to .mdb but not forms, reports, macros or code). Here's what I do:

1 - get all users off the system.
2 - from the .mdb file, goto 'file', 'get external data' then 'import'. Browse for your .mde file then select the table(s) you want to import.
3 - As you probably know,if you have a table in the mdb with the same name, Access will add a '1' to the end of the copied version. Rename the tables as appropriate and recreate the mde file from your mdb.

(I am using Office 97, so can't swear this method works for all versions of Access).
Good luck

This won't help you with your current data, but you really should consider splitting your database into a front end/back end model with the front end as an .mde and the tables stored separately in the back end.

That way you can update the .mde as often as necessary without worrying about these types of data issues. Maq [americanflag]
