You need a connection to the Excel file, Hlynur. That's typically done through a DTS package. There's no native T-SQL function for connecting to an external data source.
DTS packages can be called through stored procedures. Have a look-see in this and other Forums for examples. (I personally recommend for the most experienced contributors, the largest knowledge repository, and the wildest T-SQL you've ever seen.)
