import Excel Data into MS Project

which version of Project are you running?
This is pretty much what I do
File, open (if connected to Project Server then click open from file)
In the type of file box choose the correct file type (eg xls)
in the "look in" box locate the folder where your spreadsheet is, and select the particular file.
Click open, and follow the Import Wizard instructions.
