import bu from windows master to aix master

Location 1: Windows Master, AIX media server, backup image.
Lacation 2: AIX Master, AIX client, needs location 1's image restored.

I need to restore an AIX image from location 1 onto another AIX server at location 2.

I know that catalog files are not compatible between windows and aix because of file system incompatibilities. This means I can't just recover the information from the catalog tape of the windows master to the AIX master, right?

I think I might be able to import the image information from the backup tape though. Does anyone have any experience or insight that might help me? I'm hoping no one says its impossible

Hm... I never try that before but it should work...

It's funny. I talked with support and this type of thing is supported using import. We talked through the steps and I'll give it a try tomorrow. Importing is no big deal, I've just never done it.

BUT I went ahead and ftpd over the folders containing my backup image (from windows master to aix master) and brought up the restore window on the aix master. I could see all my backups for this client. I did not expect that.

Tomorrow, after the AIX mksysb has recovered the rootvg (containing NBU), I'm going to try to recover the rest of the filesystems using the fptd catalogs. I'll let you know what I find.

If it works I'll also be asking Veritas a few more questions!! We are getting ready to migrate out windows master to an aix master and we've hired consulting to convert the catalogs for us. I'm guessing it may have to do with whether the cats are ascii or binary and I don't even know if ALL databases on the master can be one or the other...
