Impedance Adapters vs. Avaya Definity????

Help! We installed our NICE equipment last week & everything went great EXCEPT we have had three impedance adapters go bad. So far, just one port on each has bad static. Waiting for replacement adapters from NICE now.

QUESTION: Are the impedance adapters even necessary? Our NICE project manager thought that he knew of a site that isn't using them, but I can't afford to damage my Definity ports.

Does anyone have any input on this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Hi There,

I believe the impedence adapters are only necessary if the amphenol cables you are using between the NICE box and your krone is over about 10ft. Our Amphenol cables are about 30ft long, and therefore require impedence adapters in the centre of the cable.

I have never heard of these failing before, seems strange ! However, I do have a few issues with certain channels recording static.

In our case, this usually happens when we have repatched a certain channel a number of times, I believe numerous patching can damage the end of the amphenol cable and you end up with a bad connection to the krone - hence, causing static (or low level noise) to be recorded.

Hope this helps.
