I am thinking of upgrading the NT4.0 Master Server to Win2000, and assigning a larger partition to the 'C' drive where NetBackup DataCenter 3.4.2 will be restored to.

Currently, the 'C' drive on the NT4.0 is only 4 GB in size. I wish to assign say 10 GB under the Win2000 operating system.

If you have done this before, I would like to check with you the precautions that should be taken, and if this could be done at all !

Regards

We successfully upgraded our Master server from NT4 to W2K a couple of months ago, and has been running smoothly since.
The size of the partition isn't an issue, but the Veritas Install Directory needs to be on the same drive as the original one so that the BPRESTORE will work.

Hi BeasterBob,

Is your NetBackup DataCenter version 3.4 or 4.5?

Were you not required to assign the same amount of disk space in C and other drives as in under NT4 during the upgrade?

Alex

You do not need the same amount - There are two specifications:
The drive, as mentioned, MUST be the same so if it was on Drive-C, it must now be on Drive-C.
The disk space - Just assign more and no problem.

We too have upgraded from NT4 to a totally new W2K server without error and from 3.4.1 to 4.5 FP3.

Hi BeasterBob, PGPhantom,

Briefly, can you enlighten me on the approach taken to restore NB DataCenter Master Server to the same server but of a different operating system (eg NT to W2K)? Are most steps automated?

Alex

I did ours a little unconventionally - I was running the NT4 and NBU 3.4.1 and W2K with NBU 4.5 concurrently. I moved division by division from one to the other while changing master server nmaes, moving images, tapes etc. I had a lot of scripts in place to accomplish this - USing the MKS toolkit for NT.

Is there a Emulex HBA card in your Master Server? How do you ensure that the HBA card is working after the upgrade to Windows 2000?

Also, what kind of Windows 2000 have you upgraded to..Advance Server?
