howdy all,
Been struggling with an odd problem. We are running Exchange 5.5 SP4, on a Windows 2000 domain controller. This setup has been working fine since I upgraded the DC to Win 2000 a couple of months ago.
Starting yesterday (Wed) some of our outgoing e-mail won't deliver, and some will. Strangely enough, some will deliver to a specific domain, and others to the SAME ADDRESS won't! When we send one of the messages that fails, I get an event in the log that indicates a successful TCP connection the the host, then after a minute another event indicating the connect attempt failed.
Two people sent a message simultaneously to the same address, and one generated 2 events: successful connection and successful delivery. The other generated 2 events: successful connection and failed attempt to connect...
We use a variety of Outlook versions, but I haven't seen a correlation between this problem and the version of Outlook. Seems like that shouldn't make a difference anyway, since the outgoing message is "packaged" by the Exchange Server.
I can RESTEST any domain successfully on the Exchange Server.
I hope someone has seen something like this before. I've been plugging away for hours and I am stumped. All input will be appreciated, and if more info on our setup would help, please ask.
Thanks,
Jim Peterson
