We have a newsletter that we put out once a quarter. Each page has two columns. There are jpg images in it also. We are having a hard time with when text moves the images move all over or if we move the image the text moves all over. We have tried unchecking the move image with text and it doesn't help much. Does anyone have any tips in helping keep things static??

Thanks
Tom

Columns with text and graphics can be tricky with Word. Quark XPress it is not.

1. What version are you running?
2. Have you tried locking the anchor?
3. Could you get a better dscription of what is exactly happening?

Sometime what I have done is fill the columns with paragraphs and paste in my content, and then remove any extraneous paragraph marks. Depends on how much work it takes. For a two pager....it may be a route. But try locking the anchor first. It is on the same dialog as "move with text".

The following looks like a lot but it is basically a one-time setup...
If you want a picture to stay put at the Top, Center, or Bottom of a column of text no matter how much text you add or delete:
1. Select the picture
2. Make sure its "Layout" is set to In line with text (Right-click, Format Picture, Layout tab, In line with text, OK)
3. With the picture still selected, click Tools, Macro, Macro, Macros in: Word Commands, scroll to InsertFrame, click Run
4. Double-click the Frame's border (make sure the dialog box says "Frame" and NOT Format Picture; sometimes, you have to click once on the picture, arrow right once, press Enter once, then double-click on the Frame's lower border in order to get the "Frame" dialog box
5. Change Text Wrapping to None
6. Change Horizontal Position to Center relative to Column
7. Change Vertical Position to Top relative to Margin
8. Change Width to Exactly 3" (or whatever is your column width)
8. Click Lock anchor
9. Select the Frame (make sure the black "handles" appear on the frame) then click Tools, AutoCorrect, type \frame, click OK

Now, whenever you want a anchored picture, just place your cursor in the column in which you want to insert it then:
1. Type \frame and press the spacebar once
2. Double-click the Frame's border
3. Change the Vertical Position to whichever position you want: Top/Center/Bottom
4. Click OK

Sorry, I inadvertently hit Submit before I was done.

1. Type \frame and press the spacebar once
2. Click once on the template picture (to select) then click Insert, Picture, From File, [browse and choose desired picture], click OK
2. Double-click the Frame's border
3. Change the Vertical Position to whichever position you want: Top/Center/Bottom
4. Click OK

Something that might help in the future and something I do, is do all my basic formatting, text insertion etc etc. then when that's all done, do the columns. Otherwise you can end up spending days faffing around with them
