Hello Everyone.. I've been trying to get rid of these damn printer warnings on my Citrix servers now for like three months:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MetaframeEvents
Event Category: Printer Management
Event ID: 1103
Date: 6/4/2004
Time: 9:39:49 AM
User: N/A
Computer: MBCDSMMF2
Description:
An error occurred while retrieving client printer properties. Default printer properties will be used instead. Client name: (azwt4) Printer: (Client\azwt4#\LPT1:) Printer driver: ()

I've done the regedit deal where you can disable the logging of printer warnings, but that doesn't seem to be working, cause i'm still seeing about 10 of these a day on each server.

These people connecting don't even have LPT1 printers! Their using Wyse Winterms and all printers are on the network. I've tried using policies to stop the lpt maps from even going, but that didn't work either..

Anyone know how to get rid of this stuff?

thanks

Log in as administrator, go to settings, printers and faxes.

Go to file, server properties, and go through the tabs until you find where you can deselect logging.

I think you need to reboott before it applies though although you are not prompted to.

Thanks man, but i've already got ALL of them unchecked.. I'm pretty sure that's a default setting anyway.

I have the same problem. it pisses me off when i check event viewer and see page after page of red stop signs. Grrrrrr.

I know huh!?! You're supposed to be this smart Admin or something, and your event logs look like a Marti Graw party or something!! I hate it!

I thought I was the only type A that used the event log. It would be satisfying to only see pertinent things there. BTW, does anyone know what "imminent disk failure" mean?

;-) CR

Ok.. just a little update..

I've enabled not only Group policies to stop mapping, but i've also used Citrix policies to try and get rid of these errors. It don't work. And i'm pissed off beyond belief.

There's got to be away to stop this stuff.. I've worked with three different citrix environments, and this is the first time i've seen this damn message so often. it's crap!

anyone know anything on this?

4. Stop the flood on the event viewer:

Are you using the Citrix Universal Printer Driver for all client printers, and are sick and tired of the event viewer being filled with informational and error warnings, that do not mean anything? Well, it's pretty simple to stop the flood:

- Stop the spooler service.
- Edit the follwoing registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers
Value: EventLog (REG_DWORD): 0
- Start the print spooler

Keep in mind this is a global change for all print related events. If you experience printing problems, you can re-enable the events while troubleshooting the problem. To do this, change the EventLog value back to 31 (decimal) and restart the spooler service to re-enable the logging of all print events.

NICE!!!!

thanks guys, but I did that before I even started this topic.. that reg change doesn't stop this message:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MetaframeEvents
Event Category: Printer Management
Event ID: 1103
Date: 7/16/2004
Time: 8:05:44 AM
User: N/A

I found that if I totally disable the mappings on the server it's self under the ICA/RDP configuration, it doesn't produce the errors. But! I've got some users who have printers on their lpt1, so I can't disable it for everyone!! AHHHH!!!! ica blows...
