Im running windows Xp.I Cannot get quark 4.1 to print a pdf file.I have installed Acrobat/distiller v5.0, downloaded the PPD files and placed them into the system folder and selected them in the quark PPD manager.Installed the PDF Filter 1.6 ext. the port in the distiller uses is a PDF port mapped to c:/documents and settings/all users/desktop/*pdf to .When I go to print any quark file it just opens up as a blank document in acrobat.Although Distiller seems to process the document.I have tryed setting the distiller printer port to print to file and produced a ps file which I drop into distiller, and same result- blank page.I have played with all the settings and tryed everything I can think of.any help would be appreciated

I have no trouble creating pdfs using Quark 4.1 and Acrobat 5 under XP. I have not downloaded any additional ppd files, installing acrobat should have taken care of that. Did you install Quark AFTER Acrobat? It sounds to me like you know what you are doing - all I can suggest is that as a last resort you reinstall both programs.

I may have misunderstood your email but the pdf filter xtension merely allows you to import pdfs into Quark as graphics - it shouldn't have any effect on sending Quark files to distiller to create pdfs (unless your Quark file contains an imported pdf).

If Distiller is producing a blank page from a PS file, it suggests one of two things:

1. Distiller isn't doing it's job and may need to be reinstalled (probably unlikely).

2. The PostScript file itself isn't being created correctly.

I'm not familiar enough with XP to give you a definitive answer, but I would suggest paying Adobe a visit to get a reliable postscript driver:

Try installing one of these and use it to create postscript files from Quark. Distiller should be able to process these. Let us know how you get on.

Like I said, I haven't had any trouble with pdfs, but I have known a few people's machines to have trouble dealing with CMYK colourspaces. Are you trying to print in colour? Try designating distiller as a 'generic black & white' printer rather than 'generic colour'. If you succeed in producing a black and white pdf, try printing in colour but process as 'composite RGB' rather than 'composite CMYK'. If that works, try producing a CMYK pdf and see if you can view it on somebody else's machine.
