As far as I know VC++ is not free to anyone. Buy the product and read the documentation for tricks of the trade. Use a web search engine for Visual C++ and/ or ATL and/or MFC for interesting info.
There's a few book/compiler packages around. You get
a "limited" version of the VC++ 6 compiler to play with.
In my experience the compiler really isn't deeply crippled
...you get statically linked MFC apps ( the code is real - just large ) and you don't get the fully oprimised compiler (so you have to wait 10% longer for a build, big deal)
Oh yeah, and you have to promise not to distrib. your apps commercially (nag screen comes up) Other than those things -it's a free product !!! We used in College exclusively. Try the Wrox Press package - those guys do the best job on VC++ anyhow.
i'm taking a class in visuall c++ our book comes with a limited version but you need to get the msdn cds as well...i'm lucky and have licenses from work but for the c++ my instructor says it works for what is in the book, the book is learn visual c++ 6.0 now from microsoft press but you will need to know c++ programming (can use come compiler to do learn it) before tackling the info in the book!
You'll have to purchase VC++. No other option. Since this is the most complex tool I've ever encountered.
Thanx
Siddhartha Singh
ssingh@aztecsoft.com
