Illustrator 10 hung on 'reading fonts' so after a number of attempts I un-installed and tried to re-install. Instead of going to the set-up/serial number screen the computer goes to the modify/repair/remove screen. I have swept my computer clean of all references to Adobe Illustrator 10, but I still cannot get to the install screen. Any ideas???

I have Photoshop 7 on board. Might it help if I uninsatlled that too and start again? Frustrated!!!

I'll tell you what, I'm looking for the same answer. If you find one outside this thread, please let me know. I do know that I had downloaded some new fonts before it crashed. I'm going to remove those asap. I haven't tried to reload yet. Also had a similar issue with norton product, yet to be resolved. Damn computers, lovem and hatem.

First, You have a corrupted font somewhere. Second, It seems like you deleted the AI folder instead of actually Uninstalling but I could be wrong. You shouldn't have uninstalled. Go to Start/Settings/Control panel/Add-Remove Programs and see if Illustrator is still in there. If it is, that means Windows thinks it is still installed and there are references to it in the registry. At this point you will need to use some reg-cleaning software to remove it or you can do a find (F3) for "Illustrator" manually in the registry to clean it out yourself . Norton WinDoctor fixes this very well.

Assuming you have reinstalled and are not using any font manager, go into your Windows/Fonts folder and "move" all of the fonts to a new folder somewhere. Do not move any Arial, Times, Times New Roman, Tahoma, Wingdings or Courier. Then load AI and see if it hangs again. Keep adding fonts 10 or 15 at a time and loading AI until you can narrow down the bad font. I have fixed this problem many times on older Windows NT,95,98 . Check Google, there may be tools to make this easier and faster.
