Hi,

I have IIS 5 set up on a Windows 2000 server (but am very new to IIS). The website works for all users but I also have a sub-section set up for a message board. This folder is getting its permission from the parent. I have also have the allow anonymous access box ticked.

The / works for me as a domain admin but for everyone else they are prompted for a username and password. I have given all domain users permissions to access the folder.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've searched through the other threads and also on Technet, I'm stuck!!

Thanks,

Andrew

For Anonymous access you need Anonymous access checked and Integrated Windows authentication checked then set the Anonymous Username to a Local Account (Guest access only) rather than a Domain Account. If your site files are not located on the IIS server give the same local account access to the share or make that username part of a Domain group with access. Make sure you keep the access rights to the IIS username low (Guest level only where possible).

Chris.

Thanks for that Chris. The Integrated Authentication box is ticked and the guest account has been granted access but it still doesn't work.

Thanks

Andrew

Is the a virtual directory? If you are allowing access to everyone (public), then you shouldn't need to do anything special. Is it possible one of the pages has a link to a graphic that resides in a protected directory?

I would suggest create a new subdirectory in the main site directory using Explorer. Copy the files to the new directory and see if it runs from there.

Did you double check that the "ALLOW IIS TO CONTROL PASSWORD" box is checked by:

Right clicking on the site..
choose properties..
goto the directory security tab..
click edit under anonymous...
click edit again under ananymous..

make sure the account is IUSER_"local computername"

(I could be wrong.. but wanna help)
