Howdy all, we run an ASP-based site on IIS 4.0. One of our areas includes a number of links to non-web-native forms, mostly Microsoft Word documents. Lately we've begun to sporadically receive error messages when we try to follow links to these Word documents. The error is:

"Internet Explorer cannot download XXX.doc from servername.

Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Curiously, the error message appears for some Word documents, and not for others.

Does anyone have any ideas? We're pretty standard on IE 5.0 as the client browser as well.

HI.

Check the file and folder names.
They may contain some problematic characters like spaces, underline or foreign language.
Check out with a simple filename.doc to see if this is your problem or not.
I don't know the HTTP limitations on filenames but not everything is accepted.

Bye
