IIS randomly stops all web services... why?

We are running a Windows 2000 Server (all updates installed) running IIS 5.0. It is our primary Domain, and has a redundant backup server that is also Domain Controller.

Randomly, during the evening, workdays, weekends... anytime, the IIS Service aborts.

All services stop, consequently, and without a VPN we're sent packing to work at odd hours.

We need some help; any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks in advance for time spent.

Is your server set to automatically re-boot on errors? Could it be shutting down and then back up when you get there? My w2k was set to automatically re-boot, and something got hosed, so it would start-up, run for about 10 seconds, then re-boot again. Nothing I did fixed it, couldn't go into safe mode, last known good config, nada. Had to f-disk. Glen A. Johnson

I had a similar problem with IIS and it's dependencies (SMTP,NNTP I was running a w2k relay agent for SMTP traffic. Shut of reboot on failures in system recovery. Go to services properties and go to recovery tab. Under the response for first failure use default the second and third I used restart service and reboot computer respectively.
This should fix your problem.
