I have windows xp pro on my laptop.I have installed SP2.Also i have norton Internet security and norton antivirus professional edition.I experienced some problems with the first installation of SP2 (IIS wouldn't start etc).I 've uninstalled SP2 and tried if my IIS was working. It was working fine.I have installed afterwards SP2 and i couldn't retrieve the so i can preview the IIS help page.I do not Know what to do.Also in administrative tools i cannot open the IIS icon service to see if there 's a problem in there.
Any help will be appreciated.
Is it my Norton's fault???And why it was working with SP1???How can i solve this problem,so i can work with IIS??

Ps1 I don't want to uninstall Sp2 or not having it at all because i need it to solve some other programms which are experiencing problems with SP1.
Ps2 Already IIS is installed on my laptop. The version is 5.1.

Uninstall NIS.
Reinstall NIS.

The set of learned application exceptions it discovered under SP1 are no longer accurate.

I did uninstall NIS but the same situation continues.I also have to remind you that i have Norton Internet Security 2004 on my laptop.I suppose Norton is the major problem. How can I give access to IIS from Norton.
Anyone has other ideas????

I have had a similar problem. Sometime in the past couple of weeks there has been an update or something that has caused IIS to stop working on BOTH of my SP2 machines. I was able to get one of them working again by doing a system restore to December.

Difference for me is that I can open the IIS console and it "thinks" it is working, but won't deliver any pages.

Anyone else had a similar problem / know what caused this?

Thanks... I had already tried the first one with no luck.

Will look into the second.

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

Thank you .The first solution isn't working for me.Downloading the hotfix and see.
Hope it solves my problem

Found my problem. The privacy service installed with McAfee Security Center 7 was blocking IIS for some reason. Removed the software and IIS is working again.

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

i suggest that you unistall SP2 and never install it again cause only problems can cause.
why did you install it at the fist place anyway?

I needed the drivers for my dual dvd rw.I couldn't find them anywhere.Plus the norton internet security 2004 pro had problem without the sp2.If i uninstall it i know it will work because i have already tried that.I do not know what else i should do.Perhaps if i use different firewall like zone alarm and norton antivirus.I also contacted with symantec and they told me that they do not support iis in this version of their programm. In other words i'm toasted for the moment. Also I had some troubles with some other applications without the sp2.I do not know what to do about the patch that i have downloaded (by bcastner). It isn't finished yet. It's been two days and still it's creating restore point for xp.
Any Help about this???
Thank you

Use Task Manager and kill the Hotfix.

It is a very simple Hotfix, and may well be conflicting with your NIS installation.

I would:

. uninstall NIS
. reinstall NIS

This will rebuild the table of permitted applications.
Check too the Symantec site for possible updates.

The NIS was the problem.Symantec answered me that NIS 2004 Pro does not support IIS.So I have unistalled it and i will install other firewall and antivirus.
Thanks guys.
