Is it possible generate a key for use with SSL rather than get one from thawte etc.

My company wants to use ssl functionality on its intranet, and have each department use its own key for each of its own internal web sites.

Yes you can install Certificate Server and it will allow you to generate your own SSL certificates for use with IIS.
