IFS Searches have stopped sharing processors

Using IFS 9.0.1.1.0 and DB 8.1.7.4.5. on NT4 platform. When users request a search the database only uses a single processor and subsequently all searches are incredibly slow, timeout or hang the system altogether. All other functionality is normal. Additionally some users are now getting "IFS-22012:SQL Error while executing Search". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
