IExplorer v6.0.2900.2180 in my PC ( WinXP pro + SP2; Celeron 2400; DSL connection) suddenly failed to open all websites ( i.e. "Cannot find server" message ) . I reinstalled WinXP Pro , checked IExplorer configurations, turned off firewalls etc... and nothing works yet !!

If I used a non-IExplorer based browser , it worked fine ( Firefox, Opera etc... ) . The strangest thing is "GreenBrowser" works O.K. even though it is a wrapper for IExplorer . Other IExplorer-based browsers that failed to work include NetCaptor and SlimBrowser.

Please advise how to fix this perplexing problem. Thanks

Try this: Start, Run, "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg OK.

Be sure to type the blue text exactly (including quotation marks) or cut & paste.

Thanks, smah, for your tip which I tried out right away . Alas ! nothing changed , still no websites opened in IExplorer!

Was your re-install a clean install or a repair install, the latter may well carry over faulty settings from the original install?

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Uncheck the boxes for "Install on Demand" for IE and Other programs (two boxes).

Try running temporarily with the third box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

If that stops your errors, you will know where the trouble is.

Thanks ,linney, for the excellent refs. that gave me the idea how to fix the problem! Finally, I discovered there was ,indeed, a discrepancy between the LAN settings and ISP settings in the "Connection" panel in the "Internet Properties" window . After this minor correction, IExplorer was back to normal again !

Best regards,
