I just upgraded an ie5.x by doing an install of IE6 SP1 ... should I have installed IE6 first??? ... The original request was to provide 128 bit encryption which I thought automatically comes with IE6 ... well it still says it is 56 bit ... also another issue is when attempting to download anything from MS right after the download button is pressed a square with three coloured objects pops up and nothing further happens ... anyone know what this little icon is supposed to represent??? There used to be a box with a crack through it if some driver or web object was broken but this box is intact just has a circle triangle and a sqare inside a box.

Microsoft does not automatically update the encryption level in IE6 for Windows 2k ... there is no mention of this on their IE home page ... I stumbled upon a link while reading the MS technet pages ... there is an encryption specific to Windows 2k at this link.

I still do not know what the icon with three colored objects means anyone know?

For the second problem try this

1- Clean out your Temporary internet files
2- Start -> Run -> REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL (note there is a space between regsvr32 & urlmon.dll)
3- Load IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> Reset Web Settings
4- Then go into Security -> Custom Level - Reset to Medium Settings
5- Reboot machine & test

HTH

I appreciate that you think this is a correction however can we call it a clarification being that although MS does state this version contains the 128 bit encryption it does not correct the problem itentified in my first post.

What is MISSING from the IE6 SP1 URL is that IE6 SP1 will NOT update Win 2K security (let me clarify that I did use IE6 SP1 from the URL you provided and it did not work with 2 Win 2K Pro SP1 machines) The link I found/identified provides the corrected 128 bit update for Win 2K which is NOT stated anywhere in the IE6 SP1 URL.

Thanx.

Ashley Pride,

What does the icon represent? Is it a new form of the old broken icon in which case means the object cannot be resolved?

To Strator,

Yes with just IE6 SP1 the encryption level stays at 56bit ... after doing the update at the second link the level goes to 128 Bit

Strange..
I used the IE6sp1 link for my upgrade, but on the other hand I'm using a Win2ksp3 (slipstreamed) installation first.
Maybe it is connected to that U are using sp1, then it seems to be that the win2k system needs to be updated for 128bit encryption to get IE work properly on 128bit.
Did I understand U right?

Strator

Yes that would be correct
