Hi,

I have a strange problem where on a Windows 2000 Compaq Evo, running Internet Explorer version 6, the back button on the browser will not work. This is constant for all profiles on the machine. Even clicking the history pull down beneath the button will not work. I have run tools like adaware and Spybot and also made sure no strange BHOs were running (Browser Helper Objects).

Oh yes, and I have also run all latest Windows Updates, including latest IE service packs and security updates.

Does anyone have any suggestions, as re-installing this PC would be a headache due to various financial applications that would need to be re-installed.

Thanks

Regards,

Tim Herman

Have you tried the IE repair option listed in Add/Remove Programs? It will be called something like Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Tools. Sometimes it is not listed in Win2K, but it's worth a look.

No - had tried the repair option before, but just tried it again to be sure, and the problem is still there.

Hello,

I have now found the root of this problem. Not sure how it happened - either some tinkering user or Adware must have set this in my opinion, but for some reason, Internet Explorer was set to run in compatibility mode for Windows 95!!! Turned this setting off, and all was now fine.

Odd.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway cdogg.
