I seem to recall that when I first started using IE6.0 (when it first came out), the option to send a page or link by email would open OE6.0 and you would choose the recipient etc.

I was tryng to send a link the other day and nothing happened. I've done some research and have found that this is a known problem in WINXP but not WIN98 as I am using. I did have a look at the Microsoft site for answers and followed their suggested routine of altering my WIN.INI file, but that has not helped either.

The only thing that I have added of late is ZoneAlarm, but I haven't read anything on their site addressing this problem, so I must assume that ZA is not the culprit.

Any ideas anyone? Regards

Done that already Jerry. It didn't work, neither did reverting back to an earlier edition of IE6.0 which definitely did work. I did go on to Microsoft site and attempted to download the latest version but a dialogue box told me that the only thing that needed downloading was text support for a host of Asian languages, everything else was OK.

Sorry! The E mail link option is still working on my IE 6. Hope someone out there has a solution otherwise you may have to un-install & re-install UGH!!

Just for S & G's, disable ZoneAlarm and give it a try. Sometimes ZA will block internet access to some programs, depending on your ZA settings. There's always a better way...

Just disabled ZA but that didn't work either. I've just looked at my son's WIN.INI file which the same as line 1 only of the one below. He doesn't have lines 2-7 at all, but his works OK.

This is a copy of my NEW (as specified by Microsoft) WIN.INI file (Mail section):

[Mail]
MAPI=1
CMC=1
CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll
CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
MAPIX=1
MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
OLEMessaging=1

What do your WIN.INI files look like for comparison.

In your Internet Options under the Programs tab do you have a default Email program listed?

Titleist, yes I do and it's OE6.0. I guess from your handle that you're a golfer. Good result at the Belfry for the European Ryder Cup Team wasn't it? Play it again Sam!

OK I take it all back, you were unlucky!

Now that I've rescinded (it was only a joke honestly) perhaps you would be kind enough to post some ideas.

Hi Nobrain

The last line in your WIN.INI indicates that you're using exchange, am I correct in that asumption?

I use Outlook 97(tried Outlook in Office XP professional, but it just wants to take over your pc totally, so I went back to the previous version).

If your WIN.INI works and OE boots into life when you click, FILE, SEND, LINK-BY-EMAIL, I might copy yours without the last line.

I'll leave this message for a few days before instigating so that anyone can tell me if I am about to make a mistake.

I Use Outlook Express, but I also have Exchange installed and don't use it. I've got Win98. "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [idea]

Well would you Adam & Eve it (believe it), last night in attempting to copy a link for WMP7.1 for a friend, the Microsoft Windows Update programme informed me that I should update OE to OE6.0 (I thought I was already on that version since it clearly showed that in HELP, ABOUT), I guess it must have become corrupted somehow.

I downloaded and the send link/page by email from IE6.0 now works perfectly. Weird isn't it?
