IE with Windows Update

Hello everyone. I have been trying to connect to Windows Update with Windows XP Pro Corporate, and am encountering errors when I hit "Search for Updates" it goes to the screen for searching then IE locks up. These are my system specs..

AMD Athlon 1.4ghz T-bird
256MB DDR 2700 Ram
Cable internet with Netgear Router, model RP614
20 GB Western Digital HDD


The error codfe I got (only was able to get it once) was 0x800A138F

Any help is appreciated
