IE Spyware problem 1

I have a problem I have never encountered before. I have a Win XP Pro OS. It was reported to me that it was "slow". You know how descriptive someone can be about the symptoms. So, I ran Adaware. When I run Adaware it starts detecting modules and when it gets to about the fourth one I get the following message: System Shutdown...Windows must now restart because DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated unexpectedly. Then it gives me a countdown of 60 seconds to save all unsaved work and it restarts the system. I have stopped the scan and removed the modules before the system restarts and then I can not connect to any web pages until I restore them back. I have also tried Spybot. It doesn't restart the computer but it still won't load any web pages until after the spyware is restored. And one more for the weird list...It won't connect to our Intranet homepage when you first open IE. It will open Google but not ours. Once I get the page stating it wouldn't load I can hit refresh and there it is. Or once another web page has been loaded like Google it will then load ours. The modules that it removed are SaveNow. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Stop the shutdown by going to a command prompt (Start->Run->cmd)and typing:
shutdown -a

That'll stop it from shutting down, then continue the scan with Ad Aware, do a scan with Spybot, then delete your temp internet files, and try again.

Check your internet Explorer Proxy settings too.
Open IE, click Tools->Internet Options
Then hit the Connections Tab
the LAN settings button on the bottom. Make sure there is no proxy if you don't know what that word means.

You can also make sure you are dialing up to the correct place if you use dialup. If your dialup number or info has changed, change it back to what it should be.

also, do a virus scan.

Always want to do a thorough check for all malware (spyware, adware and viruses)

Thanks bcastner. That fixed my problems, all of them. I removed all the spyware and ran the winsockxpfix and everything started working like normal. you get my vote.
