IE open .doc in word instead of browser

Does anybody know of a way to force IE to open a word document in Word? When I put the path to the file in the href tag, Netscape opens Word, but IE opens it in a browser window...

I want to make it more idiot-proof ;-)

zip the files and force a download Live long and make your kids suffer..
