Background: I use IIS on my local machine to develop websites. I was constantly running into problems with IIS not working so I tried to reinstall it using a W2K disk. Now, after that for some reason, the IE Explorer icon has disappeared.

The funny thing is I have a web page saved on my desktop - it has IE icon on it.. and so when I click to open it, it opens up in IE Exlporer and I can see all my favorites, etc.

If I right click on the saved page, and use "another program" option, I cannot seem IE as an option!

I do not know where to go into the hard drive and right click on the program to create a desktop icon.

Any suggestions on what might be happening and how I can get IE shortcut to show up.

Use Explorer and go to:
c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

Right-click on IEXPLORER.EXE and choose: Create Shortcut.

Drag and drop the shortcut on your desktop.

hmm.. this is kinda bizarre...

when I go to the Internet Explorer folder, I do not the see anything like iexplorer.exe - there are a bunch of files and folders there but nothing .exe there are some files that show ie6setup and iesetup - but no exe!

any ideas what might be the reason for this? There should be some exe because I am using IE as described in the post above!

Run IE anyway you can, click on Help, About... and see what version you are running.

I suspect you will want to reinstall IE 6.

It is 6.0.2800.1106

And I have found it that IIS has also crapped out again..maybe I should reinstall both eh? :)

Try searching for iexplore.exe
I would be curious where it ended up. Then create a shortcut to it, and drag it onto the desktop.

i ended up reinstalling and got the icon and IIS back in action.

IMHO having the unistall and install functions over a common check box are so confusing.

Thanks for your assistance.

BTW - I did a search for iexplorer.exe on my hard drive and came up with 0 results - try to figure that out!
