Hi guys,

I am running IE 6.0, SP1, latest patches installed. XP patched also. The problem is whenever users try to access some webpages, like yahoo or google... sometimes IE goes blank and it says "done" as if the page has already been displayed, but actually it doesn't display the page... any ideas?

Thanks carrr. I'll try registering the dll's again and let you know.

You re-registered, as follows?

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

If so, does your email or any other internet program work okay?

If this happens to all pages, there is something else going on; if it happens to some pages see:

bcastner,

Yes I did exactly the same. I'll try the link and let you know.

Carr,

Tried the link, nothing worked.

Linney,

Thanks for the info but this is not related to secure web sites... it happens when trying to access yahoo, google and some other random web pages...

Under Internet Options, General, Temporary Internet Files, Settings. Change the value for your stored page refresh to 'Every visit to the page.'

bcastner,

I already tried that also :) I am starting to think this may be a conflict between two (or more) patches for IE...

Clean your temporary internet folder. Exit IE and restart and try again.

Make sure your options in IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced are correct.

Uncheck the boxes for "Install on Demand" for IE and Other programs (two boxes).

Try running temporarily with the third box "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" unchecked and see how this goes.

"This specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature. You must restart Internet Explorer after turning this option on or off."

You can reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and entering the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 c:\windows\inf\ie.inf

(where c: is your Windows drive).

You will need to have your XP CD available. If you re-install remember to update it.

Using SFC /Scannow at the command prompt will help in repairing IE.

bcastner, linney,

Thank both of you for your help. Unfortunately, I am in the middle of a bigger and more complex issue here... so, I will try what you are suggesting tomorrow or thursday-friday morning at last, and I'll let you know.

bcastner, linney, carrr,

First of all, thank you all guys for your support.

Secondly, the interesting part: We are part of a very big Extranet, so every computer in my local LAN access the Internet behind a proxy (not located here). Guys administering the proxy told me they are going to send us a fix (probably a MS patch) to solve the problem but adviced me to inmediatly check the box "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections".... apparently, the problem is partially fixed just doing it, now users can browse google, yahoo, etc., without problems.... however, if the issue continues, I'll let you know!
