Can anyone help me???
I have a local proxy server and an intranet site. If the proxy server crashes - the intranet goes off (even tho there on seperate servers/domains). I have now put a list of server names in the proxy exclusion list using the * wilcard option. The problem here is that most of the sites needed for the intranet begin with UK and I have put UK* in the exclusion list. This blocks out all uk.*.* websites on the internet like yahoo and trendmicro.
I have tried to enter ip subnets to the exclusion list but they get ignored by IE - only names (FQDN's or hostnames) are used. Name resolution works fine from the clients using a combination of DNS and WINS.
I've spent a couple of days searching through stuff on microsoft with no joy. I need to be able to enter the local subnet of all the intranet servers.

Does anyone have any ideas ????
or should I just expand the exclusion names to include all the webservers ??

Thanks in advance
Kev

Why did you go with uk.*.*? What are you trying to accomplish? Good luck.

Glen,
I blocked uk* as 12 of my local servers are named ukXXXXXX. I set the uk* hostname in the proxy exclusion list but accidently blocked out access to sites like as it redirects to uk.yahoo.com and is seen as local by the browser. I need to add 2 subnets to the exclusion list instead of 15 host names but when i try this they dont work at all. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why ip address' don't work in the exclusion list as I've used them there before (at another company) and they worked fine.
Thanks
Kev

The net achievment is for the browser to work for intranet users even when the proxy server is down.

for local subnet, just check "Bypass proxy server for local addresses"
For regular users, I configure to use Automatic detect, bypass proxy server and do not use proxy for *.nai.*, etc.
