Hola,

following problem:

got a customer where you can't download from any website using IE, it gives the error message: Security settings of this machine do not allow this.

any changes I make to the Internet Options do nothing...

tried to DL FireFox, same deal, went with IE to the FTP DL site and clicking it produced the same error, but I could DRAG'N'DROP it onto the Desktop...

installed FF and there I have no problems at all...

a little more History:

IE 7 was installed, got deinstalled by me due to the fact that it would not work with his ISP's Proprietary rebranded IE, error messages galore... deinstallation went fine with no hitches...

Thanks Linney,

for the links...

I have already read the following:

Executing Files by Hyperlink and the File Download Dialog Box KB232077

Information About the Unsafe File List in Internet Explorer 6 KB291369

and I will try to give the rest a (re)view... I am thinking that throwing out IE7 may have done something not quite cosher to IE6...

anyone with more data on the subject, please do not hesitate, and let me know...

If IE6 is still on the machine the "fix" might be worth a try?

Internet Explorer Fix

Otherwise there are the usual "all-rounders".

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Thanks Linney,

the repair install would be the last resort that I am going to do...

as to the IEFIX, totally forgot about it... :)

Thanx for your help LINNEY...

Problem is no longer, unfortunately, I was looking at the wrong end for a remedy and missed that the (newly installed) FireWall was the culprit... I was so used to my own FW and how it responds that I forgot to check it...

boy am I embarassed now...
