I have a home PC user problem, where Internet Explorer 6 SP2 running on Windows XP home addition can not get to secure web sites (i.e. HTTPS). This just started happening. No I have no idea what software may have been installed. Although I have been told it worked up until a few weeks ago.

Windows XP Home SP2

Internet Explorer 6 SP2 128 bit encription

Firefox web browser can access secure web sites so network and broadband access is working ok.

Non secure web sites come right up. No problem. It is only secure web sites that are a problem.

Running: SFC /scannow didn't find any Windows protected file problems.

I'd rather not have to do an install inplace of XP if I can avoid it. Mainly because that could potentially also not resolve the problem either.

OK, any body have suggestions or have run in to this before and know the solution?

Any error messages when you try to access a HTTPS site?

No error messages other than the "can't access page" being displayed.

I would rather not do an "in-place" reinstall of Windows XP if I can avoid it.

Also, SSL boxes checked in IE Tools/Internet Options/Advanced.

I did finally find the Windows XP forum and found some related posts. However, I am quite willing to listen to any advice. Although it will take some time before I can get at the PC. The PC belongs to a neighbor that I volunteered to help with this problem.

Also appologies . . . I think I accidently posted this in the Access forum rather than in the intended WIndows XP forum. Eventhough I am very tired by 10:30PM (my day starts at 5:30 AM) I really need to be more attentive to what I am doing.

Best regards
