hi
i've win XP pro with all the latest windows updates;
i've also opera and, when i open this forums homepage, in opera opens in 1 second or 2, but with ie6, never ends and the status bar says 59 left missing itemns...
what's going on?
thanks

thanks for your reply
i tried both, but it seems my case is a bit diferent: only certain sites dont load the image and i get no red cross or placeholder, just the page wont finish loading...forever.
examples:
and
for example.
quoting the symantec paper: (which makes a lot of sense)
"This problem happens because the affected Web sites display the images by first sending information to another server and then obtaining the images from that server. The information that the Web sites send is called referral information. For security, NIS and NPF prevent Web sites from sending your referral information to other servers."
but..i dont have any of that software...
i've zonealarm but i rebooted with it off and the problem persists...
dont know what to do (tried most of that thread sugestions too)

Talking of RED "X" here's a different thing to try to see if it will finish loading your Page.

Click on the Red "X" in the Explorer Bar where all the icons are and see if that causes the Page to finish loading (correctly).

I don't know if it would work for "59 items remaining" but I often see it work for "1 item remaining".

Also have a look at your Browsing options in Tools/ Internet Options/ Advanced and see if altering some of the options makes a difference. Try it with the Setting "Restore Defaults".

bcastner: thanks for sugestion but its not a gif prob, guess its a "referral" prob - whatever it means ...:)
i've no red crosses, just the page doesnt finish loading - the wtrips bar in the status bar stays in there, measuring a % of the downloaded page, forever

linney: i've no red crosses anywhere; yes i tried restore to defaults too...

thanks to both

It is interesting that in your example both are pulling images from Barnes and Noble.

Try this test. Go to Google, Images, and search for XP.

You should see several thousand images in various formats: .jpg, .png, .gif, etc.

If those show without issue, it is a referral issue. Once source of these problems can be your security settings in Internet Options. Another can be your antivirus or firewall software. Norton Internet Security will do this without question.

thanks for keeping helping
yes i googled xp images and they are all there;
i've no Norton Internet Security
i do have zome alarm but as i guess i allready said, i tried rebooting with it turned off and the problem was there also.i was very scared because suddenly, when navigating a site, all imgs were "crossed" (yes, i went to internet options and selected the view placeholder for imgs); then opened opera, all was fine with that site, made some few more moves, came back to this site and was ok again
But i guess its a warning...a very bad one
ha! i asked a friend with winxp + ie6 to navigate to that mysql page and she too coudnt see the book image, but when she clicked there, she saw the whole barnles site, which i cant - missing 50 + imgs...
And more: in the mysql page, the page finishes downloading, while with me that does not happen

Also, clearing your temporary internet file cache can do wonders.

As can decreasing the size of the cache.

Under Settings, make sure that you set the update for stored pages to automatic or every page visit.

bcastner: i had allready done it
gpalmer711: i'm still reading your utility
i'll be back as soon i've got news
thanks to both

hi again
payed close atention to every item in the utility, but nothing special there.
i've a cable connection and a small home network with this machine and another one, my children pc. I went there now and no imgs on theirs ie6.
i make webpages (amateur) and have installed apache, mysql and php, among other stuff.
well, now i got another post here, so i'll check it and come back

bcastner: the utility says "default" and says that optimum is 20
walking through these definitions, registry and all is very frightening to me, so i try to move carefully. Do you think i should alter something in here?
i'm a bit afraid since the 2nd half of august i've experimenting terrible internet connection probs and also network too but this i solved (was a firewall config prob).

You are not going to hurt anything by accepting the "Custom" setting of 20/40, and you can always change it back.

The issue I believe is this one:
And as it notes: "If you raise the connection limit per server, you can delay the problem. The problem occurs because Internet Explorer may occasionally lose HTTP connections internally. Because 2 is the standard connection limit for HTTP 1.1, the problem occurs later if you raise the connection limit."

That is why I asked you to use TCPOptomizer to raise the MaxConnectionsPerServer limit.

I believe you would benefit as well by going to the MS Update site and applying the "October, 2003 Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer."

i changed it to 20/40
i contacted microsoft and i'm waiting they email me the patch
i also noticed something very interesting:
i right cliked in
my computer/properties/advanced/performance/ans selected: adjust to best performace
now my pc looks like win98 - all gray - but some pages show ALL images, and pc works faster too. But that mysql page continues the same
thanks a lot for that link and good help!!

bcastner: just a small q:
as changing values in that app (sg tcp optimizer) got no results, i wanted to restore them... but i forgot what was the max connections 1.0 per server, so i wrote default (in both). Think this is ok?
thank you
