We have had something occur on one pc that resulted in these three problems.
1. Windows explorer did not work causing the dsktop to never fully come up.
2. NAV would not enable auto protect, consequently it was not running.
3. Any website that requires a login was not accessible. We could go to "ING.com" but when we click on "login" it could not find the page.

Originally "Internet Optimizer" would come up although we were able to delete it.

The first problem is solved.

It must be a virus but I don't know how to correct the situation. Any Ideas?

We have so far removed all unusual or unnecessary programs and edited the start-up menu and the "run" key in the current version of windows so that we only have what is necessary.

Thanks

I'm not sure about #2, it could be due to a virus but also could just be windows problems. Try a couple of these online virus scanners faq760-3862

#3 is probably not a virus and there are several causes for this condition. The most common cause is the incorrect date & time on the pc. There are several other causes discussed in detail in the browser forum and that forum's faq's forum608.
