A friend has AOL DSL and recently installed AOL 8.0. Up until he installed aol 8.0 Internet Explorer 6.0 was working fine, but since he has installed 8.0 IE will not find any pages. Also every time IE closes he gets an "could not reference the memory at bla bla bla, the memory could not be accessed" type error. He was getting this error before he installed 8.0. He can get pages fine using AOL's own browser.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE from add remove programs (he has XP by the way). I still get the error and can still not get any pages. resetting Internet settings, and checking/unchecking "detect settings auto" in IE options. Any ideas? Thanks

try running sfc /scannow from start...run.

1. Make sure he has SP1 installed;

2. Make sure your settings under Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Set Program Access and Defaults, is set to Custom

3. Start, Run, CMD and type these lines (or cut and paste and make a .CMD file)

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

YBNormal, ran what you said to run, it finished with no messages, and still IE would not find pages.

Bcaster, I'm not able to get service pak 1 because I could not dload it from the microsoft site through AOL's browser. It went to "searching for a suitable dload site" and was never able to find one. I'm still waiting to find out what the results were from a Norton Anti Virus scan that I ran. Since I could not get service pak 1 I did not try to run any of those commands you listed.

Bcaster, I clicked on that link and got "page cannot be found"
