XP Pro sp2, Adobe Reader 6.0.1 I have this recurring problem, whenever I access a pdf file from a webpage and subsequently close the document I get the following message "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close, add-on: pdf.ocx, The instruction at 0x03c9f5ch referenced memory at 0x0000000 the memory could not be 'read' " All ie windows are then closed. Have tried unin / reinstall of adobe reader to no avail, cannot update the add-on, that area is greyed out. any help would be appreciated as I don't even know where to start with this one.
Thanks, Daniel.

After doing some investigation, it seems that you can solve this problem by deleting the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
CLSID\
{CA8A9780-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000}\
InprocServer32\
ThreadingModel=Apartment

By deleting this key, you are telling Internet Explorer that the pdf control is a single-threaded component rather than apartment-threaded.
COM will do some extra work synchronizing the calls to the control's objects which seems to solve the problem.

Some other thoughts:

1. The turbocharge trick may resolve the problem: faq608-5439

2. An update to Reader version 6.0.2 may help:

thanks bcastner (again), i'll give it a go as soon as I get to work tomorrow.
Daniel

I have tried all your suggeted fixes with no luck thus far, will keep investigating...
Tried update - no change. Turbocharge - faster but still have error. Deleted Regkey - success!
Thanks,
Daniel.
